On behalf of the Graduation Pledge Alliance and Humboldt State University you are cordially invited to attend Ignite! Lighting the Passion Within, a leadership conference and celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Graduation Pledge. Please hold the date, make plans, and join us for an event that will include inspirational keynote speakers, community service projects, great presentations, and heartfelt celebrations of food, music, and dance.
The Graduation Pledge started at HSU in 1987 and has since spread to colleges and universities around the world. Under the auspices of the Graduation Pledge Alliance and hosted at Bentley College (a conference sponsor), the Pledge continues to inspire all of us to be mindful of how we can change the world by the personal and career choices we make.
Please consider offering a presentation at the conference. an important conference value is to build mentor relationships between those that have learned from their experiences, and the students in attendance.
Check out the conference website at http://studentaffairs.humboldt.edu/leadership/ to register for the conference, and to submit your presentation.
Join us for an event you'll never forget!
The Graduation
Pledge Alliance is
pleased to formally
announce its new
collaborative
partnership between
itself and Free the
Children.
Free the Children is
the largest network
of children helping
children through
education in the
world. Founded in
1995 by
international child
rights activist
Craig Kielburger at
age 12, Free the
Children has since
grown into the
largest organization
of youth helping
youth in the world.
Covered by media
including Oprah,
CNN, 60 Minutes,
10/10, Time, and
People magazine,
they work to free
children from
poverty and
exploitation by
addressing its
primary root cause,
a lack of education.
Free the Children
has been nominated
three times for the
Nobel Peace Prize,
received the World
Economic Forum
medal, and has
partners that
include the United
Nations, Oprah,
Bishop Desmond Tutu,
Dr. Jane Goodall,
and Richard Gere.
Free the Children
has changed the
lives of more than
one million children
around the world
with their
innovative approach
to education,
raising more than
$20 million dollars
from youth, building
400 schools for
35,000 children,
developing
healthcare centers
for 500,000 people
in 40 countries, and
delivering 200,000
school kits to new
students around the
world.
GPA and FTC have
developed a new
pledge in honor of
children and
children’s rights
that FTC will begin
offering to its
campus chapters this
year. The wording
of the Global Pledge
for Children and
Their Families,
Society, and the
Environment is:
I, ______, pledge to
use my knowledge to
educate others about
the social and
environmental issues
that impact our
world. I commit to
making socially
responsible career
and lifestyle
choices with a
particular emphasis
on enhancing the
lives of all
children and their
families. Through
passion, action and
dedication, I can
help children meet
their basic needs
for survival.
While only offered
to chapter members
this year, FTC plans
to introduce both
this and the
standard GPA Pledge
to all students at
campuses in the
future.

partnership or FTC
